Drinking Water For Dry Zone Areas – Puttalam & Trincomalee

Trincomalee, in the Northeast of Sri Lanka, and Puttalam in the Northwest, are both areas that are rife with poverty and struggle. According to census statistics, 39,718 households in Trincomalee live in impoverished conditions, while most people in Puttalam live below the poverty line, trying to make ends meet in the meagre earnings they receive as fishermen and daily wage labourers. This area also suffers excessive drought conditions forcing residents to struggle to find clean sources of water to accomplish their daily needs. Having assessed the poverty levels, malnutrition, and the need for drinking water in these areas, we at Carestation have formulated a plan to carry out our Water for Life project in the areas that we find most deserving of immediate access to clean water; as such, we will be setting up water line connections in the Nagavillu and Karambapalaviya Divisional Secretariat Areas in Puttalam, and the Kucchavelli and Kinniya Divisional Secretariat Areas in Trincomalee. This would constitute Phase 3 of our Water For Life project, where we will focus on establishing 40 water line connections. In Phase 1 and 2, we were able to establish 80 water line connections, and we hope to achieve the same success with Phase 3. The beneficiaries of this project will be vulnerable families, widows, and orphans affected by the latest drought situation in these areas.
