Living in a drought stricken area in Puttalam in a house handed down to him by his parents, the sole breadwinner of the house struggled to fulfil his daily requirements and pay off utility bills in addition to having to afford water requirements of Rs.50 per drinking water bottle and Rs.500 per water barrel for washing.
