Prisoners are Human beings too!

In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Women Empowerment Programme of Carestation presented 4 JUKI industrial sewing machines to the mothers and other female convicts at the Angunukolapelessa Prison so they can learn sewing and convert it to a livelihood upon their release. For women who see the world from behind bars, this could also be therapeutic and keep them occupied. They will be supervised by trained personnel who will provide them with the necessary guidance to carry out their sewing.

The sewing machines were received by the superintendent of Angunukolapelessa Prison at the prison headquarters in Colombo today.

This Women’s Day, we are glad to have done our part in opening the avenues for a better life for all women!
